Stars you collect while running are charging your second power ability, your pet.

You can fully customize your character by purchasing some of the items sold from the in-app-store in exchange for gold coins or diamonds. Both currencies can be collected (in small amounts) by playing or completing missions, but if you rlly like to get everything instantly, you can buy them both for rl money.
